#S4S – Books that have made me cry

This is quite possibly going to be one of the easiest Six for Sunday posts I’ve ever done as I cry at books quite often. I just get too sucked in and I cry at everything. Now the tough part is to only list six of them!

1.The Illuminae Files by  Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I cried horrifically at all three of these for loads of different reasons so I’m going to class the whole series as one entry or we’d be here forever.

2. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
I keep mentioning this book because I think it’s one of the best and most important books I’ve read this year and crying at this felt very different as I’m not really often affected like that with contemporary books but this hit so many nerves and there were some beautiful eye opening moments that had me bawling my eyes out.

3. Hero at the Fall Alwyn Hamilton
I had a passing interest in the first book, rebel of the sands, then fell completely in love with the second book, Traitor to the Throne and I wasn’t sure how the third and final installment would make me feel and I was shocked to find out I had very strong feelings for some of the characters and cried an awful lot through this book.

4. Lord of Shadows by Cassie Clare
I feel like if you’ve read this you’re possibly nodding along to this one as it seemed to have emotionally wrecked a few people and it gave me a humongous book hangover. I also can’t even talk about certain parts without welling up (see booktube review) I’m deliberately trying not to think about it too much even now.

5. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
I loved the hell out of this book, it was so beautifully written, it kept me guessing and it was so decadent and magical but also completely and utterly heartbreaking. Never has a city name been so relevant as Weep.

6. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
I have never cried at another book the way I cried at this one. I sobbed my heart out for at least twenty minutes before becoming a an empty hollow shell curled up on my sofa for another hour. I actually put it in the freezer at one point (I kid you not).

I also want to give an honorable mention to The Last Girl in the Universe by Lauren James because I cried twice from sheer terror and that was the first time I’ve ever done that!

There we have it. Just six of the many books which have broken my heart into tiny little pieces. Two of which have sequels coming out this year that I’m now terrified of! Thank you so much to Steph from a little but a lot for my favorite prompt so far! Don’t forget to check out the #S4S hashtag for other awesome Six for Sunday posts! I can’t wait to read everyone’s and compare! Have a great weekend 💙
