Last year especially I got into a really bad habit of see book, want book, buy book immediately then not reading it and along with my preorders, it just doubled my already sizeable TBR. I’m trying to be a little more careful this year and I’m slowly but surely working through them and this weeks Six for Sunday prompt is a good opportunity to look at what books I brought last year and still haven’t read yet.
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
I preordered this and was just so excited to read this sequel as I really loved Caraval but I just never got around to it and I’ve heard such mixed reviews that I haven’t felt too compelled to get around to it yet. I did want to read it before Finale was released but as that’s happening next week I’m sensing it’s not going to be happening.
Unearthed by Amy Kaufman and Megan Spooner
This is an audiobook version I got with an audible credit after finishing the Illuminae series when I was trying to look more into Amy and Jay’s work, this was sold to me when I found out the narrator was Steve West who is my favourite Audiobook reader/actor.
Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare
I know the physical version is out this year but I downloaded the first few stories for my Kindle last year and I still haven’t read them. I still haven’t even finished Queen of Air and Darkness yet, I think there’s just too much Shadowhunter content being released for me right now that I can’t keep up with it all.
Empress of all Seasons by Emiko Jean
I was gifted a copy by Gollancz in return for an honest review and I feel terrible that I haven’t got to it yet as it was already out when my copy arrived but this is definitely one I really want to read soon!
Mass Effect: Annihilation by Catherynne M. Valente
This was a book I brought with some of my Christmas money last year, I’ve been waiting to read it until I’ve finished the Mass Effect Andromeda game as I shouldn’t be at risk of spoilers from the game that way but being the terrible gamer I am I just haven’t finished it yet. I might play as a reward for finishing this blog post then maybe I can read it really soon!
Circe by Madeline Miller
I brought this book because it was pretty. It sounds awesome too but it takes a lot more for me to be interested in reading bigger hardbacks because I just don’t find them comfortable to read so they often get left to the side quite a lot while I read smaller hardbacks, paperbacks or Kindle books instead. I am determined to get to it eventually though as I’m not sure I know anyone who hasn’t liked it yet so its odds are good that it’ll be worth the wrist ache.
What books from 2018 have you still not read?
Ugh… all these post about the Caraval series … I guess because Finale came out and I have to avoid them because it is one of those series I haven’t started!!!! 😉 but one I can tell is that it seems to be positive from skimming and stars.. so far…. but nope not reading!

Lol I’ve only read the first one, don’t worry this post has no spoilers about the books what so ever, it’s just one of those books I’ve not read yet.

I have a whole lot of books from 2018 that I still have to read, but Circe is on my list too! Hopefully we can both get to it soon.

Indeed, I’ve heard such great things about it

I love the idea of this feature! I bought Circe when it came out too. I am terrible for buying books and then taking a long time to get too them.

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by all the Shadowhunters content. I read QoAaD, but I haven’t gotten around to Red Scrolls of Magic or any of the GotSM books yet.
I never buy the short stories, I just wait for them because I cannot keep up with the releases

I’m so so bad at buying books and then just never reading them!!! I do that all the time but I’m really trying to get through them.

Oh my gosh, I have that exact same problem haha.
Circe is on my TBR too, and I have heard amazing things about it.

Circe is 100% worth the pain of having to hold up a hardback book. It’s amazing.

I haven’t even read Caraval, I definitely feel like I’m missing out!! I hope you love Legendary when you get to it 😊

Aw thank you. Yeah I think Caraval was super popular a couple of years ago but it wasn’t everyones cup of tea.

I know what you mean about Legendary – I enjoyed Caraval so much, but Legendary was just a bit “meh” for me

That’s what I heard and why I haven’t been too desperate to get around to it.

Circe was one of my favourites last year and I’d definitely recommend it! I still need to get around to reading Legendary too despite already buying a copy of Finale…

I haven’t read any of these either! I am so bad, my backlist is massive. I buy books that I want to read when they come out, and I don’t read them until years later.

I’m so guilty of this too 😂😂
